“I feel like a completely different person, I don’t recognize myself in pictures,” Says.
How Kelly lost 54kg and got her health back on track
The Bendigo-based mother of four reveals she knows she needs to make a change after finding herself struggling to breathe at times.
“I became really unhealthy, my asthma was getting worse and I was struggling to breathe,” Says.
“I had arthritis in my feet and knees and it was affected by the extra weight, plus my body was sore and achy the whole time.”

In fact, the 40-year-old says she was embarrassed about her appearance.
“I was taking two types of blood pressure medication, had a blood test and pre-diabetes, and it terrified me,” Says.
“Soon after, I saw a terrible picture of myself from a wedding with friends. I was embarrassed about my appearance.
“I was ashamed and disgusted with myself for becoming unfit, unhealthy and unhappy. Then I decided that was enough, it was time to put on my big pants and change what I didn’t like about myself.”

Kelly’s weight dropped from 133 kg to 79 kg
Although Kelly is not a fan of using a scale, she says she weighed over 133kg in September 2019.
“I’m not sure exactly what my weight is, but it was my biggest ever, I’ve been overweight my whole life and was so terrified of the scales,” Says.
“I joined The Healthy Mummy Facebook page and started reading other people’s great stories and trying out some recipes. This was the first time I started counting calories.
In March 2020, I signed up for healthy mummy app And I never looked back. I lost 54kg in total and am currently 79kg. I’ve gone from a size 26 to a size 14.”

Health benefits of losing weight
Best of all, Kelly says, her doctor was surprised by the results of her last blood test.
“My levels were all in the normal range, I stopped taking one of my blood pressure tablets, I can breathe easy, my asthma is under control and I stopped snoring,” Says.
“I also don’t get a lot of foot pain and the constant aches in my body are almost gone.”
And that’s not all! Kelly says she also has more energy and motivation.
“I’ve gained a lot of confidence and no longer hide from the camera,” recognize. “I voluntarily jump in photos now and have many selfies in my camera roll.”

“I love Mexican lasagna, Mexican one-pot casserole, honey mustard chicken, baked veggie bagels the most right now, stacks of chocolate pretzel, and raw peanut butter bars, but carrots and date cakes are still my favorite snack!”

3 tips from Kelly for success
1. Setting goals
I like to use goals and make a really detailed plan on how to achieve them. I also think about my progress regularly and change my plan when I need to.
2. Use healthy mummy support groups
They are amazing! It’s full of motivating stories, tips, and support that’s always there when you need it!
3. Never give up
Even when you feel like you’re not getting anywhere, just keep going! Keep your eyes on the destination, you may need to change direction every now and then but never give up!
“Take small steps when you start and build on the good habits you pick up. I still do this two years later because it works so well.”
