Show 2021 Honorable Mention: Good Neighbors

The $270 million Texas Health Frisco was completed in 2019, the culmination of an ambitious goal to develop the traditional healthcare facility into a “health facilitator” integrating community wellness programs and preventive care. Part of achieving this vision was designed by HKS Which aims to enhance the patient experience throughout the 20-acre medical campus in Frisco, Texas, which includes a 330,400-square-foot acute care hospital and a 120,000-square-foot multidisciplinary clinic complex.

The jurors particularly appreciated the dynamic design, inspired by the project site, which introduces materials, patterns, textures and even local geomorphs as well as plenty of indoor/outdoor connections and a suspended outdoor staff walkway between the hospital and clinic building.

In addition, sustainability strategies improve operations and respond to local weather conditions, such as solar analysis of glazing to achieve both indoor daylight and glare control, building orientation that protects outdoor areas from heat and rainwater and mechanical condensation for site irrigation and climate – a responsive facade that is resilient against Extreme weather events are expected to be 100 years old.
