Jenna Gordon says her relationship with food was unhealthy before she found the healthy mummy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.
Says a mother of three in Tasmania, “I was not happy inside of me and food was always by my side, during all the good and bad times of my life.”
But after seeing a picture of her, Gina, 42, decided it was time to make a change. And I managed to lose an incredible 18 kg!
Gina lost 18 kg and is now feeling comfortable in her own skin
Jenna’s clothes were tight and she felt uncomfortable as her weight had slowly crept in over the years.
“In November 2018, at my daughter’s celebrations for high school graduates, a random photo was taken of me and when I saw it, it broke my heart,” Says.
“I knew it was time to make some changes. I had been following The Healthy Mummy for several years, and with a few tepid tries, I lost weight, but I also regained it because I didn’t have the right balance between good food, exercise, or self-care.
“But I still haven’t surrendered to myself, though.”
It took Jenna three attempts to start losing weight
In January 2019, Jenna said she was at her heaviest non-pregnancy weight at 93 kg.
“I started my third journey with the healthy mummy. I remember this numbered attempt because every time I try again, I learn what works and what doesn’t work for me and my family, which makes each attempt better than the previous attempt,” Says.
“I was determined to recover and made a real effort to achieve it. I set myself an achievable goal of losing one kilogram per month, aiming to fit in a wardrobe that I hadn’t worn in many years.
“I lost 18 kilograms that year and can now comfortably fit my 14 size wardrobe, even an unexpected few of a size 12 (a size I have never had in my life).
Gina’s key weight loss advice – set yourself small goals every month
A mother of three says she was able to achieve these lasting results by setting small goals every month, backed by a plan to achieve them.
“A comprehensive lifestyle overhaul was not going to work plus I needed to be honest with myself. I didn’t gain weight in such short time, I wasn’t expecting the results I wanted to happen so quickly,” Says.
“Getting support was very important, and I found the support I needed when I became an active member of the face book page of local health mummy advisors.
“Here I am inspired by so many moms, I can safely share my progress and achievements and the days that don’t always go the way I planned.”
Make small changes
Make healthier versions of the food she was eating
“I am now filling my body with good food and am sure to try new recipes from The Healthy Mummy. I like to combine two recipes together, for example, Asian slow-cooked chicken makes a very tasty two-ingredient pizza dough dish!”
Drink healthy mummy juices
“Some of the THM products that I enjoy regularly are A premium espresso smoothie And the Snack bar, apple pie.
Organize with meal planning and preparation
“Planning and preparing meals / snacks helps keep me organized. It helps save my family money too, bonus!
“Making a double set of family favorites and keeping some ready meals / snacks in the freezer is very helpful as well.”
Move!
“Exercise is something I do now because I enjoy it, because it makes me feel good. My favorite thing is to go for a walk and listen to music, and this helps me distract my mind from all of my mom’s duties to do. I also love having a regular weekly PT session.” With weights.
“My favorite app workouts are HIIT and Tabata, they are very fast and effective, especially great on the days when I’m poor.”
Put yourself first from time to time
“Self-care was probably one of the hardest parts of a healthy lifestyle for me. I had to learn over time, that it’s perfectly fine to put myself first, and to spend time each week doing something I enjoy.”
Heal yourself
“I’ve maintained my weight loss now for the past four months and my goals for 2021 are to do things outside of my comfort zone and work on my low body confidence.
“Which I am proud to share that I totally did this week, with a dizzy shoot. It was an enjoyable empowering experience and I now feel great on the inside.”
