IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Edition “AMG” watch

For most pilot watches ساعاتInspiration comes from the air, with functionality that caters to pilots and a design inspired by the aesthetics of aircraft and cockpits. But for the latest edition of the Pilot’s watch, Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen has kept its eye on the ground – or more accurately, the racetrack. Designed in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG, the new IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” combines high-tech materials and a powerful new movement to create an experimental watch with a unique motorsport heritage.

Design-wise, the watch incorporates automation-inspired materials and aesthetics that racing enthusiasts will appreciate. One such element is titanium: the strong, lightweight metal is used to make the 43mm watch case (the first time IWC has used the material in a Pilot chronograph watch). It gives the watch a lightweight feel and excellent scratch resistance. In addition, the matte gray of the case is a reference to the “Selenite Gray Magno” paint color found on AMG cars.

The dial also comes upgraded with racing technology. It’s made of carbon fibre, a material widely used in racing cars to create aero components like spoilers. While aerodynamics isn’t so important to a watch, the woven carbon fiber texture gives the dial a unique style, and its darker color helps the silver sub-dials – inspired by the scales on the car’s dashboard – stand out.

There’s more to discover on the back of the case, too. A sapphire colored crystal gives a view of the movement (more on that below), and it is emblazoned with the Mercedes-AMG logo. The monochromatic look is completed by a black calf leather strap with contrast stitching.

IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” also has some serious muscle under the hood. Powered by the in-house IWC caliber 69385, the Pilot’s first 43mm chronograph with a movement. This automatic movement features a 46-hour power reserve, and its chronograph function can track time measurements up to 12 hours (ideal for timing periods on the Nürburgring). It also works to display today’s date. Since the time water resistant Up to 6 bar (about 60 metres), it has all the comfort and durability you need for everyday wear. (Yes, you can even wear it for swimming.)

A pilot’s watch built to racing standards, the AMG Edition is built for performance (and eye-catching style) in any environment.
