Airbnb’s latest listing sits amidst 80 volcanoes

Opportunity to spend a night sleeping a stone’s throw from a volcano, well below 80 volcanoes, is not something very experienced. But thanks to Volvic and AirbnbYou have a chance to sleep in the shadow of France’s most famous volcano. Even better, if you can book this very special lodging, it will cost you only €1 (US$1.18) plus taxes.

Chaîne des Puys is a north-south chain of 80 volcanoes located in central France. With the last known eruption in the area over 6000 years ago, this region of cinder cones, lava domes and craters is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its lush forests and beautiful lakes. It is also home to a unique vacation rental for the Volvik Company.

Room with Volcanic View

The house itself is LUMIPOD, a unique housing concept that combines outdoor and indoor spaces. The most remarkable feature is the 16 feet of clear circular Lumicene walls that provide panoramic views of the Chaîne des Puys. As part of the stay, guests will receive a guided tour from the on-site team to learn about the biodiversity of the area, a special morning sunrise yoga session, and a locally sourced dinner for two by Adrien Descouls, whose restaurant Origines is located in nearby Le. Broc has a Michelin star. And if they want better views of the volcanic landscape, there’s the hot air balloon ride.

Guests begin their stay with a welcome video call from the host and Fulvik Global Ambassador Kilian Journet. Jornet, a super sprinter and mountain runner, has won the Skyrunner World Series six times and holds the fastest climb and descent times in Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and Denali. He has also designed a volcanic picnic for the guests.

Wondering why Volvik got into the vacation rental business? This area is literally the main turf of mineral waters. Before bottling Fulvik’s water, it spends five years filtering through six layers of igneous rock at Cha inne des Puys.

If you’d like to spend the night next to a volcano, reservations open on a first-come-first-served basis at 3:00 AM ET on July 19, 2021 at Airbnb.com/volvic. As they say in France, good luck.
